It seems lately when I am at an event or I meet someone who knows I’m the face behind Not Your Plain Sarah Jane, they ask if I’m a full-time blogger. I always answer, “I’m actually a full-time stay-at-home mom to my 7 and 4-year-old and do blogging on the side.” I’ve been fortunate enough to stay home ever since I had my first child. I started NYPSJ about a year ago as a creative outlet to sprinkle in with being a mom.

With all of this being said {fashion blogger + mom} I feel like I have my ‘mom-style’ down! I love to get dressed and create cohesive outfits with layers and accessories, but a lot of days I’m sporting something ultra-functional and comfy. I find having easy tops to pair with leggings and skinny jeans are my best friend most days, I call those ‘mom-tops’. Here’s what the perfect “mom-top’ entails:
- Can be thrown on with leggings or skinny jeans
- Take you from a soccer game to, errand running, to a glass of wine with a friend {always need to keep that option open}
- Comfortable enough to get on the floor and play with the kids and have everything covered {no plumbers crack allowed}
- Covers the tummy area that we may want to conceal after having our babes
- Washes easily
My ‘Mom-Top’ Picks
If you’re a mom {or not} do these tops fit into your busy lifestyle? Maybe it’s mostly what your closet consists of these days and I totally understand that! All about ease and functionality!

While we are talking motherhood a bit, I was at my daughter’s meet the teacher night a couple of weeks ago and I was so caught off guard by something her teacher said. Lizzy’s second-grade teacher {a young teacher} stated she wouldn’t be sending homework home each night as play is still the best way for children her age to learn. I was so elated to hear this! I couldn’t agree more. Truly what we expect of these little people is so much. If I ask Lizzy to do a math worksheet or count money for practice she refuses, but if I can sneak in learning with a fun activity it’s a win! Here is some fun educational activities that are winners in our house.

The Alphabet Game

Nothing fancy is needed to play this game. While you are driving find letters of the alphabet on signs outside of the car. Start with “A”, perhaps you see a sign for Apples, so that takes care of “A”. Next try and find a sign that has a “B”. Sometimes it takes a while to find a letter, but it keeps the kids busy while driving. It’s been quite the contest of late.

As you can tell, I love being a mom, it’s the most amazing gift I’ve been given. Fashion and style is a hobby, but my life is my family.
As always, I really appreciate you reading. Make it a great day!
