Crushin’ On Camo!

1

One thing about my wardrobe – it is not the most colorful. I tend to shy away from bright prints and colors. Black, grey, white, and tan are what I am drawn to most often. I tend to bring in some pizazz with bold jewelry, a scarf or handbag. I feel I get more mileage out of my wardrobe this way, as I’m able to mix and match more pieces. One exception is my love affair for the camouflage print!

I don’t know if I even classify camo as a print because to me,  it seems so neutral. I wear it all year with three key pieces I have. I’ll warn you, not all camo prints are created equal. I would not recommend mixing your camouflage piece from DICK’S Sporting Goods® in your everyday wardrobe and calling it chic.

There is one brand that I feel does this sassy print best, Sanctuary.  Two of my camouflage pieces are this brand. The easiest piece to wear to being this print to life is a camo top. I reach for my camo button down shirt All.The.Time. I have had this top for about 6 years and Sanctuary still sells almost an identical one– making it a classic as far as I’m concerned!

Ok, so now how to wear this masculine print and not look like you are going to war. First, look for the right material. The Tencel type material of my fave camo shirt is light and flow-y, which makes the print look softer. It also makes it cool enough to wear in summer and light enough to layer under a sweater for vest in fall and winter. Hence why it’s in constant rotation!

Next, try to feminize the look with sparkly jewelry or other soft colors. As you can see I paired this shirt with one of my favorite statement necklaces to add some sparkle. I also love adding gold and rhinestone combinations with this top to achieve a ladylike look. The colors I pair camo with are generally light. My favorite combo with this top is my white demin; I think it creates a great contrast. I also love a blush hue and softening this print by incorporating lace or a ruffle.

These are my go to camo pieces in my closet. The button down shirt and pants are the Sanctuary brand (which obviously I love!). The cold shoulder top is Vince brand that I scored at Marshall’s (how awesome is that?), so I can’t attach the same one, but found a smilier cute one.

Hopefully the next time you see something camo hanging on the rack, you’ll give it a try and rock the look!
