The Blazer

The blazer has never gone anywhere, so I’m not going to say it’s making a come back, or that it’s a current trend. However, we are seeing them EVERYWHERE and I’m so happy about it. I’ve ALWAYS admired a chic blazer. It’s classic and creates a put-together look with little effort. Anyone can pull off a blazer. I am going to share with you different cuts & styles, and a few ways to style this closet staple.

There are blazers at Every. Single. Store. Target, Gap, American Eagle, Forever 21, Nordstrom, Saks, Old Navy, you name it, there is a blazer for sale. Dare I say, but this fall, the blazer is the cardigan. Throw over this polished piece to complete any outfit. Plain, or plaid, it’s all fair game.

First, find a blazer that suits your body type. There are many styles available in stores right now. I couldn’t believe the selection at H&M. They had a variety of styles & colors at fabulous price points.

Single-Breasted Black Shawl-Collar Blazer, this is an average length, no buttons, and laid back gathered sleeves. Basic black bodysuit.
Fitted Blazer – perfect option for petite women. Cut shorter in the torso. Basic Black Bodysuit.
Double-Breasted, 3 Button Plaid Blazer. This style is a little more oversized, notice the shoulder pads? Very 80’s, but I LOVE it! Size down in this blazer – wearing a 6.

This beauty was the winner for me as I left H&M. I couldn’t resist this classic houndstooth plaid, the oversized, double-breasted style and shoulder pads{!}. Once you have your favorite style and color, it’s time to start creating different outfits.

Of course, any simple top will go under a blazer. I love a plain bodysuit under a blazer as it’s not bulky and stays tucked in. However, any of these jackets look awesome paired over so many tops. Don’t be afraid to try something fresh and new! The look is definitely a little edgy right now, so trying a fun tee, a lacy cami or chunky sweater are all good ideas.

Date night/girls night look. Add some sass and casualness to the blazer with distressed jeans, a lace cami. all-time best nude sandals and a pop of leopard.
Super Casual with a little funk. Under the plaid blazer pair your favorite graphic tee. Pair with distressed jeans, booties and a lot of jewelry to create this look.
An easy everyday look – don’t forget a classic button-down shirt! Double-breasted plaid blazer, chambray button-down, black jeans, booties.

Which is your favorite look? I like them all depending on my mood, and where I am going. Did you notice something in each picture? I heavily accessorize with jewelry when sporting a blazer. Because the blazer is so masculine, I like to make it more feminine by adding a lot of bracelets, statement earrings, or layered necklaces. Don’t be afraid to add some sparkle either.

Another small detail to make the blazer more relaxed is to roll up the sleeves. On the particular jacket I purchased, the sleeves are easy to roll up as they feature slits on the side. Some blazers I’ve linked have permanent gathered sleeves to appear it’s pushed up giving a relaxed feel. This is a small style element that can really impact the overall look when wearing a blazer.

As you can see, this is a great staple to have in your closet. Throw on a blazer over almost anything to elevate your outfit and give it a polished, put-together, layered look perfect for fall.
