Nordstrom Beauty Trend Show 2019
Flawless skin, a lipgloss that’s going to give my the J.Lo shine, mascara that will make my lashes pop – yes, please! I’ve always loved the beauty world {although I err on the side of less is more type of looks}. Keeping up with the latest and greatest of beauty products is hard to do as it’s ever changing. This spring, I was fortunate enough to attend the Nordstrom Beauty Trend Show in Chicago to keep abreast of the latest in beauty. It was hard to not say, “I’ll take one of everything!”
The one movement I am seeing in the beauty industry is finally focusing on the importance of SKINCARE more than makeup. I’m personally very passionate about this idea after working five years in the cosmetic surgery/aesthetics world. You can’t get makeup {no matter how expensive} to look flawless over terrible skin. Skin #1, great makeup #2. A few treatments that are available at your aestheticians office, are now {in a safe and easy way} becoming accessible for you to do at home. These products are not going to take place of treatments offered by your trusted aesthetician, but can enhance and maintain the work they do.
Here’s the first at- home treatment with the idea of what was once only available by appointment – DERMAFLASH. It’s an at home exfoliating tool {basically a safe way to shave your face}. It removes the top layer of dead skin, peach fuzz, and built up debris on the surface of your skin. If you’re a loyal Not Your Plain Sarah Jane follower, you know I get professional dermapeels about four times a year by a medical aesthetician. In this treatment I basically get my face shaved, then a chemical peel applied. I LOVE the smooth feeling after Amanda “shaves” my face. If I could do this lighter version at home once a week, it would only enhance my skin by removing that top layer of dull skin. A very cool new tool that’s now on my wish list.
Another super futuristic at-home-skin-care tool is the SpectraLite Faceware Pro. Looks crazy, I know, but light treatments can be very affective at treating underlying skin conditions such as wrinkles and acne. Simply wear this mask three minutes a day to zap acne and prevent wrinkles. Sounds great right?! My sister, who works for a well-known plastic surgeon in Chicago, says light therapy does work, and they use red and blue lights on patients all the time. Seems harmless to your face but not your wallet, it’s quite an investment at $435.
Sticking on the topic of skincare, there are many natural, safer products packing a lot of punch. Arcona Triad Toner pads are one of these products, which by the way has amazing reviews. This natural brand uses plant lipids, vegetables, antioxidants and essential oils to create a powerful skincare line for all skin types. These little pads are packed with antioxidants from cranberries which help to clarify skin. Use them to tone, cleanse and remove makeup.
Looking for a powerful vitamin C serum that’s natural and effective? Omorovicza Skin Care is apparently where it’s at! Omorovicza was created with a patented Hydro-Mineral-Transference process {sounds fancy} to channel the healing waters of a thermal spring in Budapest, Hungary. The Vitamin C Serum is very potent and will illuminate the skin while stimulating collagen production.
Here’s a new brand you may not know, Paula’s Choice. It caters to any skin type, especially the tricky combination skin. This Skin Perfecting AHA Lotion stuck out to me for it’s value. For under $30, it offers 8% glycholic acid which is an excellent exfoliant. This skin perfecting lotion is also packed with plant oils to soothe skin. Seems like a great combination of ingredients at a fabulous price. I will definitely be checking more into this line.
Lastly for skin care, here’s a fun little addition to the beauty sphere, Madonna! Oh yeah, she’s getting into the industry with a skin care line, MDNA. The Rose Mist seems to be the “it” product of the line featuring her favorite flower, the rose. This mist features MDNA exclusive Holy Water from Italy {mmm, ok?!}. Spray on skin before moisturizer or to set makeup. Maybe this “Holy Water” is what she’s been using to keep her youthful appearance? I’d try!
As for the makeup side, there is of course no beauty trend show that won’t mention the famous NARS Orgasm Blush. It’s NARS’ cult product and the most universal blush color for all skin tones; women have been raving about it for years.
I was excited to see my beloved Laura Mercier products mentioned as part of an exclusive package to Nordstrom. I personally use all three of these products when appying my full make-up routine and cannot rave about them enough. They truly help achieve a glow and flawless appearance without being heavy. The price for this exclusive package is a steal too!
Of course MAC always catches my eye with their innovative collaborations and seasonal packaging. This spring is no exception with their Boom Boom Bloom limited edition lip gloss and highlighter.
The last few memorable products are all to create that perfect pout. I don’t know about you, but I can never have too many lip products! Check out this Chantecille Lip Definer. It’s a clear pencil that defines the lip and helps keep your lipstick in place. You can also fill in your lips and put your lipstick over it to keep your color lasting all day. Speaking of lip color, how amazing does this Tom Ford Lip Lacquer Luxe look? It comes in amazing bold colors and looks so creamy.
I’m going to end my trend show favorites with an ultra luxurious lipstick, Guerlain. I’m not sure I’ve seen a more beautiful lipstick situation. The lipstick and case are sold separately; the cases also come with a built in mirror. Imagine whipping this out after dinner to reapply – your friends will be asking about it. So fancy!
Which item intrigues you the most? I would love to try the DERMAFLASH and the MDNA setting spray, oh, and the Guerlain lipstick would be the perfect addition to my purse.
