All The Details
This was our first Frostiball! I received tickets to this ball from my amazing husband as a Christmas gift. Other couples in our circle of friends mentioned it was a fun event and a great excuse to get dressed up and enjoy a night on the town. The event benefits our local performing arts center, the Overture Center, which is a wonderful asset to the community. Having children, we truly appreciate all of the events it offers {and many free of charge}. Tickets to Frostiball were a great gift idea as I looked forward to this day since Christmas! Let’s be honest, I was busy planning what I was going to wear for the last month. Here’s how it all came together.
As you can guess, since I really like style and fashion, I love to dress up and get fancy every once in a while. I like putting a whole look together. Being a stay-at-home-mom, there isn’t a whole lot to get fancy for {although we have had a wedding a year the last couple of years}. When I get to pick out an evening dress and elegant accessories, I feel special, so – “me.” It reminds me that I am Sarah, not just a mom. I still have it in me – the ability to be beautiful on the outside. I truly felt beautiful last Saturday, and it was good for the soul.
Surprisingly, I didn’t buy a new dress for this event! My husband was shocked when I said, I actually have something in my closet to wear. Being this was my first Frostiball, and not knowing exactly how dressed up people would be, I went safe with black (I also had a gold and a blush sequin option from past winter weddings}. Black is always elegant, always appropriate and chic. This Dress the Population black lace gown fits me so well, and I love the textured lace overlay; I was excited to wear it again.
Because this dress was last season, I am not able to link the exact one for you to shop. Here is an almost identical dress {the lace is a bit different, but same silhouette, by the same designer}. The brand is interesting in the fact it runs, S,M,L for sizing in gowns. I am wearing a medium and it just zips (I’d say a medium is about a size 6). I love the deep v-neck, the delicate straps as well as the overlay (shorter skirt with a sheer longer fabric over the skirt} of this dress. I’d say it’s a signature look from this dress maker.

The fun and versatility of a black dress is how you can accessorize it to achieve a look you want. Changing the shoes and jewelry can really alter the overall style when wearing a black dress. This event was the Frostiball, and I wanted to incorporate a frosty, icy look with my jewelry. I had to look no farther than my current favorite jewelry designer, Kendra Scott. I honestly don’t remember the last time I opted for silver toned jewelry, but when I saw this black mother of pearl bracelet, absolutely stunning ice-like earrings, and crazy fun mood ring, I knew this was the way to go.

We have the clothing and accessories to wear, now it’s all about making myself look and feel ready for a ball. There was no doubt in my mind where to turn for this. My trusted full service salon and spa for many years, Alan Koa Salon and Spa located downtown Madison.
When I moved here nearly ten years ago, I frequently asked other women where they went for their salon needs, and there was a resounding recommendation to Alan Koa. I truly feel they keep up with techniques and trends within the industry, and offer superior customer service. I was so fortunate to have Fazia, my regular stylist, work my hair into this fabulous little side bun up-do, so chic and sophisticated.
Next, it was time to make this face look glam! To be very honest with you, I get nervous having my makeup done because I feel makeup is very personal to each individual. Jillian, the makeup artist at Alan Koa, was incredible to work with. Jillian asked me a lot of questions as she was applying my makeup to ensure her application aligned with my usual look. We used the black mother-of-pearl in the earrings to inspire a gorgeous bronze smokey eye look. I could not have been more pleased with the outcome!

Last, but certainly not least, is a manicure! If you have been following me, you know I pretty much always have my nails done. It makes me feel feminine, pretty and truly put together. This was the last detail to complete my Frostiball look. Laquerus nail salon is my go to salon. Believe it or not, they offer vegan, no-chip manicures. Amazing, right? Laquerus boasts the BEST color selection in town along with a gentle and safe approach to manicuring nails. The salon itself is impeccable and the staff is beyond any words I can write. How many nail salons can you say that about?

I wanted to do something fun and different on my nails for this event. Following Laquerus on Instagram, I see all of the amazing, tasteful nail art they can do, and thought this was a time to give it a try. I see Madisen, a true artist when it comes to nails. I expressed the desire of wanting nail art to her and showed her a picture of the black mother of pearl bracelet as a source for inspiration. Let’s just say she NAILED it {pun intended}! Tasteful, sophisticated, and fun! The amount of compliments I received on my nails was beyond my wildest imagination. Definitely, the BEST and most creative nail salon in Madison!
We have the whole look down – dress, jewels, hair, makeup, and nails! I am feeling absolutely beautiful and ready to hit the town! My husband is decked out in a tux and looks incredibly handsome! Let’s do it! Frostiball here we come!
The ball takes place at the Overture Center For The Arts on State Street, as it is a fund raiser for this wonderful facility. The Overture is such an important part of the culture in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. From traveling Broadway shows, to amazing children’s programs, to one of the most beautiful venues for weddings and events, it is an anchor to this beloved city.
Walking into the Overture for Frostiball was beautiful! The decor was top notch and very elegant. As we entered the main event area, an upbeat, large band was playing dance music appealing to all ages. We could easily grab a glass of bubbly as we explored all the ball had to offer. Beautiful bite-sized, and delicious desserts were displayed and available throughout the evening as well as many yummy snacks. Wine, and beer were hosted for most of the evening and very easy to re-fill {I always appreciate an event where this is the case, who wants to wait in line forever for another drink?}.
We danced the night away, explored all areas of the event including the casino room, the art gallery on display, and fabulous silent auction packages. We couldn’t help and stand in awe as we danced in the shadow of our stunning State Capitol. We danced the night away and had such a memorable time at Frostiball. Truly a beautiful event.
