Slough Off That Dead Winter Skin with
Amanda Reed Skin Care
The winter is absolutely brutal on our skin – it’s dry, flaky and dull this time of year. We can attempt to cake on mouturizer to give us some instant relief but the truth is, with all of the dead, dry skin, our products aren’t able to penetrate and work as they should. This is the time of year to remove that dull top layer of skin and start working on that glowing face for warmer months ahead {not to mention the weddings, graduations, and reunions we want to look our best for in early summer}. Now is the time to start this process, and I have just the place to do it!
If you have been following me for a while {thank you if you have!}, you may remember I worked at a cosmetic surgery center in Madison, Wisconsin. While I am not professionally trained in medical grade skin care as an aesthetician, I helped manage a center that offered these types of facial services and products. I attended many trainings, and witnessed, first-hand, many positive results. I am by no means an expert, but I can tell you what has worked for me.
I think the largest misconception with skin care is we need to slather our skin with lotions to achieve skin radiance. This is NOT true. Our skin goes through a six to eight week skin cycle and there is often dead, dry skin left on the surface that needs a little help to be removed. This is where meeting with a medical aesthetician, like Amanda Reed comes into play. Treatments she offers such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, dermaplaning, and facials all help with this process.
Amanda Reed is a licenced medical aesthetician and someone I have trusted with my skin care needs for over ten years. I started my skin treatments with Amanda because I had dreaded malasma {dark spots} on my face and was very self concisous about it {I was caking on makeup to cover them}. Amanda assured me we could address these issues though various treatments and today, in my late thirties, I am more confident with my skin than ever before, thanks to Amanda.
I visit Amanda Reed Skin Care about every six weeks for a mild treatment to keep my skin bright, glowing and flawless. My most recent visit included the dermapeel treatment to slough off dead skin and get my face feeling and looking smooth and flawless. Here’s what it entailed:
The first step of this treatment is dermaplaning. Basically, Amanda used a razor to scrape off all of my hairs and top layer of dull skin {totally painless}. Here are some benefits of dermaplaning:
- removes hair that traps oils and dead skin
- diminishes the appearance of fine lines (from dead skin that has settled in them)
- instant results/no downtime

The service I was receiving that day didn’t end with the dermaplaning. I mentioned I did a dermapeel. This is a two step treatment. The next step was applying a light concentration of glycolic acid {better known as a chemical peel} to the fresh skin that had just been dermaplaned. Applying the glycolic acid to the fresh skin allows for maximum absorption as the dead skin and peach fuzz have been removed. Benefits of the glycolic chemical peel:
- removes blemishes, acne scars, dark spots and overall unevenness
- smooths the overall surface of the skin
- feeling of tingling/warmness, a tad uncomfortable

To see the full results of a chemical peel, I allow one week. The days after this treatment you will experience some redness, and dry skin {the dead skin peeling off}. After a week my skin is at its all time best! Radiant, glowing and rid of any acne scars or spots. This treatment will also help to clean out any acne that may be living under the surface, decreasing the amount of breakouts. Overall, it addresses so may skin concerns.

The dermapeel is such an effective procedure. There is no downtime with this service. You can head back to your normal activities and routines. Redness will be prevalent, but nothing you can’t touch up with a little tinted mousutizer or your regular make-up routine. I cleanse my face as normal and start applying my regular skin care routine about three days after the dermapeel.
Lastly, when investing this type of money into your skin with treatments, it’s important to follow up with medical grade, effective products. Amanda can suggest a personalized routine for you. Here are some of the products that I use daily to keep my glow {not all medical grade skin care products can be sold online}. Check out details on all of the products I use from my recent skin care routine post. You’ll be surprised that they are NOT more expensive than the products you can buy at Sepohora or your favorite department store, but they are a LOT more effective. I am excited to offer all of my followers 10% off any products as well. Use the code VIP10 at checkout for this special discount!
