I will never forget the day I bought this Burberry coat. To me it represents my style, classic and timeless. It is one of the few designer things I own, and for me it represents part of my coming of age. I worked really hard for this coat. It’s old, I’d say around twelve or thirteen-years-old.
When I graduated Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, I was hired in real estate in Chicago. This was a huge learning curve for a 22-year-old. I had to learn sales techniques, mortgages and really grow up quite quickly to encompass all that was needed to be successful. But, I did it! I studied, practiced and ultimately succeeded. I purchased this coat on Michigan Avenue in Chicago with one of my first commission checks. The feeling of walking into Burberry and buying this was exhilarating for me {I didn’t come from a family where this was something we could just do}. It was a sense of accomplishment for me. I had only dreamed of being able to do something like this one day.
I admit, I am somewhat attached to this coat. It’s really not that exciting style wise, but I find myself reaching for it each fall. I think it’s because it means something to me. It brings back good memories. And, I guess that signature plaid is pretty to look at ;).
Looking at this picture, with my children {and knowing my husband was behind the camera} makes it all come full circle. I have worked hard for everything here. It’s awesome to see us grow and evolve as people. Now, buying something designer is cool and I like it, but these two little smiles next to me, mean much more than anything I could ever buy. I do not take that for granted. I am so thankful for these blessings.

This meaningful jacket was the perfect piece to wear last weekend as we made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch. My favorite leggings, a cozy and affordable sweater under my coat, and rain boots were the perfect combo to enjoy this moment with the family making new memories.
